With the stress of the holiday’s, my husband and I have been arguing more than usual. The problem is, we have a small house and found it hard to keep it away from our children ages 9 and 5. What kind of effect will this have on them?
Hello diamond_drue,
Thanks for reaching out to me! You are not alone in experiencing the stress that holiday’s bring. For a variety of reasons, the winter months take a toll on families. Your kids are 9 and 5, and this means that they are very impressionable and look towards you and your husband for security. Hearing you argue more frequently could affect them in various ways. For example, you might begin to see that they are short tempered, sad, or anxious. I suggest that the two of you talk to your kids and reassure them that everything is going to be okay. That’s what they really want to know anyway. It may be hard to avoid arguing in front of the kids…but do try. When you do argue in their presence, try to do so respectfully. I know…you’re scratching your temple! What I mean by that is….no cursing or degrading comments. Instead, give each other an opportunity to speak, and try to come to a resolution. This will model to your kiddos how to handle conflicts with their peers…and later on with their spouse:)
